I think its down to the idea of seeing it done in a studio although sounds better when they play in the street give far more character to the person and you feel like you can connect more. You realise its a real person and not just a studio.

I would say its because it feels like its more real and unedited or less chance of being faked. And maybe you can put yourself in the audience and picture yourself experience it as if you were there

maybe its just me, but i personally really like these kinds of videos and performances because it feels more magical. it's someone sharing their talent with random people in the middle of the street, you know? it feels so human compared to listening/watching a studio recording

Why in public? bcs they don't have studio or money for rent sooo, they performing public and it's more stressfull and embaresing to do so. Public = no agents, no music label, working themselves, working hard to go up, no bullshit

I love watching buskers in real life so Street performance videos are great cause it’s as close as I can get while in quarantine. I also like to see a single person is just that skilled to play that live in one take, whether it’s just an instrumental or vocal or both and the confidence that it takes. I like the imperfect acoustics because it makes it feel more raw, more like a regular person whose talented than a professional performer. Like for me it’s all about it being raw rather than produced and artificial, like my favorite busking videos are a single singer with an acoustic instrument. Maybe a microphone, nothing more. Possibly without an instrument or a “proper” instrument (like the bucket guy from Vegas). (Also Timbre is pronounced TAMber)

I think people like these kind of videos more because they are relatable. It’s something “anyone” could do with practice rather than in a big professional studio. Actually, looking at these kind of videos got me into playing piano.

I think the weird thing that makes live better than studio for some reason is either because performing in public says something about the performer's confidence or at least their willingness to put themselves out there which I think is a curious thing for most people that tend to fall into the category of "I could never do that" kind of thinking, or because live public performances have the opportunity to showcase those moments when music can be an unsaid, universally understood moment of connection between complete strangers and that connection can cross all the borders of age, identity, or language. Those moments of unity I think are what give people goosebumps because it feels authentic or unplanned. That's my theory.

@Roomie, Live videos because it's natural and real. That's the attracting musical aspect, the other part is the live reactions from passing pedestrians. Doing the same thing but in a studio is not something to watch, but to listen to, and people go to spotify or apple music for listening. C:

i feel like the street performances are so popular because they are more "real", you just feel more connected to that person and knowing that someday you can also witness some in-real-life talent on the streets makes you appreciate it more. at least that's how i think it works

No, Roomie. You're thinking on the visual part of the video but people don't play this to watch the video tens of times, it's the repeatability of the audio. You play songs multiple times at a time. It's sort of like your channel, I repeat the same video with a different title everyday

It's interesting because more is at stake and the feeling of anything could happen, in the studio you can have as many takes as you want. When it's live there are no retakes and its mote impressive because othere are nerves unvolved and other people's reactions which can't be predicted or controlled

I absolutely love Karolina!! She is incredible! But to answer your question, when someone is singing or playing in public in a video, it's real and genuine, it is also different, every single time compared to listening to the studio artist every single time you listen to a studio song. Whereas the 100s of other covers are all different, they're real, and seeing them in public with fans feels like a concert to me haha and we all love concerts...I think. Plus, sometimes covers are better than the original.

I think it’s the average Joe effect. Similar to draw of talent shows like the Voice/Got talent. What I mean is often times these people seem like a regular average person, undiscovered. It seems more authentic. I think more production gives the impression that it’s “produced” and “manufactured” and not real. Which isn’t always the case either way: street performances are not always undiscovered, spontaneous, amateur talent, and just because something has been produced doesn’t mean it lacks authenticity.

I think these videos are a big thing because its interesting to see other people who are as amazed as you are by the performances. I like seeing peoples reactions as well. Its a good reminder that musicians are real people too and yes it can sound good even if its not in studio. Uh not as artificial if you will. (I know studio music isn't artificial but its not raw like this.)

It's because it's physical proof that the person can perform the music with their own ability alone. While production has come along so far that a ton of stuff is possible and sounds great compared to old recordings. But that same thing is why old recordings stand up, it's the thought that " these guys are just standing in a room playing this", it didn't take a hundred takes cut and pasted together, they didn't pitch anything up or down so it fit, they had to be loud enough to be heard over background noise and stay on key. It's impressive, while I might vibe to a recorded version of something, I'm extremely impressed at what people can do live. I wish people did more live covers instead of filming it like it is and then lip syncing.

Joel, it's simple. If you can do it live, you can do it anywhere, but you can't always do what you did in studio live. It's like you're proving you've got talent, it's raw, it's real, it's not just studio production

I think when live performances are done well and it’s actually live and not lip synced, it shows the raw talent of the artist. With studio recordings, you never know how much has been altered to make the vocals sound a certain way.

Joel, you asked us for answers to why street performers / buskers are so popular. In my humble opinion, there’s two factors responsible: 1. We are deeply social animals (that’s why this pandemic has not only been physically devastating for humanity, it’s also affected us psychologically & emotionally) 2. Street performers are “seen” as one of us. Their lives haven’t been changed by celebrity which sadly creates a wall between the famous and regular folks. Thank you so much for your videos!! They’re keeping me & my fam laughing & entertained, something we all need right now 😊
